Do Not Call!

notcallEarlier this week, I received an email forward from a co-worker urging me to call an 800 number so that I could provide my cell phone number to the National Do Not Call Registry.  The instructions told me to call the number from my cell phone and then type in my cell phone number.  This made me a bit suspicious.  In the email was a link to a government website, so I decided to head over to that website and check it out.

On the website, I read about a lot of scammers out there who are trying to get people to share information. Tricks are bad.  The website has a way to register your cell phone numbers for the “do not call” list, it then sends a verification email, and then you are on the list and should not get any annoying telemarketing calls on the cell phone registered.

Well, woot!  That was easy, right?  Who wants telemarketers calling our cell phones?

I have this weird feeling in my gut that I should be suspicious about something, but I do not want to be. I do not want to be an alarmist or think that there is some conspiracy in this.

Is there one?
